My family has been in California since before the gold rush and I am a fifth generation Californian. My wife, Jean, and I have been married for 42 years. Her family has been in Humboldt County since the 1870’s primarily in the Arcata-McKinleyville-Blue Lake areas. Our son, Andy, is a 1993 graduate of Fortuna High. He taught for seven years and is presently the Principal of Olive Grove Elementary School in Antelope-Roseville, California.
In 1967 I earned a BS in Natural Resources from Humboldt State. I retired from the U.S. Army Combat Engineer after 22 years of service. During the late 70’s I ran a hands on manpower training program for RCAA. I have given workshops at College of the Redwoods and possess a lifetime teaching certificate.
I worked in maintenance at the Humboldt County Hospital and at Fortuna high for 16 ½ years and was a millwright for seven years at various mills. Presently, UI work for Wendt Construction operating heavy equipment specializing in watershed and wildlife habitat restoration.
I also served as the Chairman of the Board at North Coast Community Christian School for 11 years. |
Eldon came to the Eel River Valley in 1958 after graduating from Live Oak Union High School |
in Live Oak, CA. (Sutter County). |

Eldon worked the first year and a half with the U.S. Forest Service out of Eureka, CA. He than |
got a job with the The Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia, CA. He started his career with the |
Company May 25th, 1959, where he started out in the by-products division. In August of 1961, |
he moved up to the Scotia Main Office in the role of a company mail delivery person and also |
working as a accountant in the log accounting department. He was in this capacity until June |
of 1995 when he was transferred to the Carlotta Mill's office where he continued working in a |
accounting capacity along with being a certified weight master for the logging department. |

In 1966, Eldon met his future wife and they were married in December of 1967. During this |
time, Eldon & Frances moved into Scotia. In early 1968, Eldon was inducted into the Scotia |
Volunteer Fire Department and served in several capacities until he retired in 1993 and moved |
into a new home in Fortuna, where they still reside. They had lived in Scotia for 27 years, 20 |
of those in one house. |

During the years of living in Scotia, Eldon was elected and served for four years on the |
Scotia Elementary School District's Board of Trustee's. The last year as the President of |
of the Board. Eldon also served for many years on the different organizations in the Scotia- |
Rio Dell area. After 41 1/2 years, Eldon officially retired from The Pacific Lumber Company |
of Scotia. |

Family wise, Eldon & Frances have 8 children, 17 Great-grand kids and 24 Great-Great |
Grandkids, most of whom have gone through Fortuna High School or is still working their way |
up to the High School level. Eldon became a FUHSD Campus Security officer in late 2000 in |
a volunteer capacity. He held this position until he was elected to the District's Board of |
Trustee's in 2006. He was re-elected to the Governing Board 2009. |

As Eldon has had and will have family members attending the High School, he has deep |
feelings for the District and wants to do everything possible to make sure all of the District's |
students has a very safe environment and able to obtain the best education that they can. |
Eldon believes if a child does not get a great education, than somewhere along the line, the |
system failed some how. |
